"NO HUNTING"

Every no hunting or no trespassing sign in rural areas seems to be riddled wit bullet holes.

Untitled Barn

...just a made-up scene because I felt in the mood to paint.

Thanks for looking.

Let me know what you think.

"Trout Springs Winery"

Here is a painting I did "en  plein air" yesterday.  The winery is near Greenleaf, Wisconsin and Water's Edge Artists gathered there to paint in support of the Wisconsin Ledge American Viticulture Area Celebration.  For more information go to the Water's Edge Artists web site or to www.escarpmentnetwork.org.

My thanks to Steve De Baker, the owner of the winery who purchsed my painting while I was still working on it.

"View from Nest Egg Marine"

On 8/2/13 Water's Edge Artist's held a paint-out in and around Stephenson Island, Marinette, Wisconsin.  The owners of Nest Egg Marine kindly allowed the artists access to their marina.  Marinette Marine ship building operations in the background caught my attention.   The painting is actually a little better as to lighting than my photography reveals here.

"Reflections"

I have painted this spot many times but never tire of it.  While painting I concentrated on keeping a freshness - not overworking it.

One of the great things about painting here is that when finished you can put down the brush, grab the fly rod and catch trout.

"Mansion Ruins"

"Mansion Ruins"

Here is another plein air painting done at the Water's Edge Artist's June 2013 paint-out.  It is the portion of the mansion ruins facing the Red River.

Thanks to the De Casters for allowing us to paint at this magnificant site.  Thanks also to the many local folks who came by to watch the artists paint and who provided so much information about the fantastic history of this place.
I owe particular thanks to Lois Schulte Brewster for historical information and for the commission to paint the nearby family property.

If interested you can find some of the history of the ruins on the internet-just Google Alexian Brothers Novitiate.

"The Mansion"
As the Point Person for Water's Edge Artist's June plein air session I chose several sites along the Red River near Gresham, Wisconsin.  One of those sites is the former Alexian Brothers Novitiate, now in ruins.  As a warm-up I have painted several scenes there.  Here I did the front of the mansion which faces one of the pretty waterfalls.  I took the liberty of doing it as a night scene.

The paint-out will be June 7  & 8, 2013.

Yesterdy I painted "en plain air" at the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve near Green Bay, WI with the Water's Edge Artists.  It was cold!  The wind chill was 4 degrees.  I painted from inside the cab of my little Ford Ranger...not the best setting for painting but I kept warm.

"Ed's Spot"

Two deep holes provide excellent fishing and one of my favorite painting sites.

Yet to be titled, if ever.  I think this would be better  with some severe cropping.  The basic idea for this painting still interests me but it needs work.  Inputs are welcomed.

"Arches"

I recently was looking at images of paintings I had done many years ago.  This scene was at an old fort in Key West.

"The Old Sawmill"

This old sawmill stands alone and abandoned rather deep in our north woods.  I often come across unexpected scenes and stuff while hiking in to some hard-to-get-to trout stream.

"Quiet Run"

One of two watercolor paintings from a plein air painting session with Waters Edge Artists here in northeast Wisconsin. From my spot on the edge of the Pike River I painted this facing downstream.  That same day I did a painting from the same spot but facing up stream

I took quite a few liberties with color but the scene itself is accurate.
